The Saturn Aura was manufactured by American car automakers General Motors in the year 2005. It is a midsize car, which was initially introduced as a concept car and debuted in an international auto show held in North America. The Saturn Aura was sold as 2006 model car, and it replaced the Saturn L-Series.
First Generation (2006—Present)
The Saturn Aura concept car had a 3.6 Liter V6 engine that could pump out 252 horsepower and equipped with a 6-speed auto-transmission. Power-train options on the Saturn XR, and the XE model that followed in the year 2007, comprised of 3.5 Liter V6 engine delivering 219 HP, and the hybrid model with 2.4 Liter inline-4 engine that generated 170 hp. The Green line model in Saturn Aura was on with General Motors’ Epsilon platform. The Green line model is a midsize sedan assembled at the Kansas City. The Saturn Aura’s production was rumored to be terminated after 2009; but, things are not clear at this point of time.
Exterior and Interior Design
The Saturn Aura’s styling looked lot like the European model Opel Vectra. All the models in Saturn Aura come with a standard marker lights and folding mirrors on both sides. The interiors of Saturn Aura include:
• Inbuilt radio antenna at the rear window,
• Standard five spoke wheels with 17 inches for XE model, and
• Polished aluminum wheels with 18 inches with 14 spokes are specially manufactured for the XR model.
The interior of the Saturn Aurora comes with a new European style, which greatly differs from the Ion. The XR model comes loaded with the paddle shifters and optional saddle leather. You can also find radio control options on the back seat.
Saturn Aura – XE
The Saturn Aura – XE is the base version in the Aura series, which comes with the 3.5 Liter VVT- V6 engine, paired to 4-speed auto-transmission that generates 219 horsepower. The standard features include six airbags, traction control, and softer suspension. The fuel economy of the vehicle is rated as 22 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on highways.
Saturn Aura- Green Line
The Saturn Aura Green Line is the second vehicle in the Saturn line up and is called mild hybrid version. The vehicle moves on XE’s suspension, and the Saturn Aura Green Line is equipped with a 2.4Liter Ecotec engine with 4T45-E-4-speed auto-transmission. The EPA estimated fuel economy of the vehicle is 26 mpg in the city, and 34 on the highways.
Saturn Aura –XR
The Saturn Aura –XR is the top-of-the-line model in Saturn Aura’s series. The XR model has a 3.6 Liter DOHC – V6 engine with VVT technology that generates 252 horsepower at 6200 rpm. Initially, the engine with this configuration was used in Cadillac CTS. Using a 3.6 liter engine, the Saturn Aura became the first FWD vehicle that makes use of the Hydra-Matic -6T70- 6-speed auto-transmission.
The vehicle is equipped with a TAP shift that enhances driver to select the gears manually by the means of paddles located behind the steering wheel. Taking a look at its long list of features, taut suspension and powerful engine, one can say that the Saturn Aura XR is performance oriented vehicle.
